Full Club Meeting Minutes
February 8, 2012

1:11pm
·To start the meeting, we took a vote in favor of giving the money donated at the Navajo event last semester to the group that presented the documentary. The decision was unanimous among members. This is a bureaucratic measure to ensure that this is in the full benefit of the club and our philanthropic presence on campus.

· Café Bookmarks is this Thursday at 7:30pm in the English Common Room! That means today, assuming I get these minutes out around midnight. Please bring stories, poetry, and musical instruments and share your talents with the group! Reading some of your favorite works by famous authors is completely welcome as well.

1:15pm
· Next Thursday is our Stupid Cupid Valentine’s Day Party. This will be at 7:30pm in EN B121. It will be friend themed, so please don’t feel alienated by all this love nonsense. There will be fun games, a bake off(where we judge based on the appearance of your baked good), and a cupcake decorating contest.

1:18pm
· Finally, on February 21st at 4:30pm, we will be having an informational meeting about the upcoming Read-A-Thon event. This is to gauge campus interest in the event and to brainstorm ideas about what would be best to incorporate into it.

First Meeting Moved!

The club fair was postponed so our first meeting of the semester will be on WEDNESDAY JANUARY 25 at 1:10pm in EN D253 (English Common Room). Bring your friends and spread the word so we can have a bigger and better semester!

Meet your NEW officers

Hey everyone,
The semester is just about to start and we hope you’ve had a wonderful winter break or winter classes if you took any.
I just wanted to let you know that I have updated the Meet Your Officers page to reflect the new positions and new officer (Welcome, Rachel!) we have for Spring 2012.
This weekend Emilia and Rachel have attended the SCSU Leadership Retreat Weekend and we are very excited to start off the semester with new ideas and bring back the old favorites as well.

Final Fall 2011 Meeting

In lieu of minutes, we have a few reminders from secretary, Geoff Troup:

1)  Tomorrow night is Study Night in the English Common Room!  We’ll have pizza and salad so come on out and eat some food.  After that we’ll get down to studying and working.  It’s our last event of the semester so come on out!

2) The very awesome Rachel Pelham was elected Treasurer for next semester, so congratulations Rachel and we’re excited to have you on (e)board.  Today was our last meeting with Jaime as VP so we want to thank her for her hard work and dedication and she will be missed.

3) We’ll send you another email when we know more about t-shirts, but if you haven’t given us a 5 dollar deposit please do so ASAP.  Most likely, they will be in sometime next week and we can arrange pick ups.  Otherwise, you can pick them up at the start of next semester.

November 30, 2011

1:11pm

·         Our last event of the semester will be a Study Night on December 8^th at 7:30pm.  Dinner will be provided.  We’re thinking pizza and salad.  We do want this to primarily be an event where studying and working happens, so if you want to be social or talk to anyone feel free to do it in the English library.

·         This Friday is the last Folio reading of the semester.  It’s at 7:30pm in the fireplace lounge.  

1:13pm

·         T-shirts are ordered and on their way.  We’re asking anyone who wants a T-shirt togive us a deposit of 5 dollars by next Wednesday.  If they cost anymore we will let you know but at the moment only 5 dollars is due.  If you can’t make it to the meeting please talk to one of the eboard or shoot us an email.  Additionally, if you would like to remove your name from the list of people who want a shirt, please let us know.

1:18pm

·         With Jaime’s departure, we will be holding an election next week to fill the position of treasurer.  Next semester, George will remain as President and Geoff will remain as secretary.  Emilia will be the new Vice President and Erica will be Public Relations.  Currently only Rachel has volunteered to run for the position of treasurer, so if you are interested in running please let us know by Friday at the latest.  We will send out another email later on about voting through collegiatelink and the details associated with that.

A Night For the Navajo People!

WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 16 AT 7:30pm in EN B121!

Learn about the detrimental effects of uranium mining on the Navajo people. There will be a documentary screening and talkback with the creators afterwards.
Donations are encouraged at the door. There will be baked goods (for a suggested donation). All proceeds go to the purchase and donation of a geiger counter for the Navajo people to help spread awareness and health safety.

November 9, 2009

1:10pm

·         Friday night is Ain’t Misbehavin’ at Long Wharf theater.  For those of you who have vouchers, we’re meeting there at 7:30pm.  

·         This Saturday is Readers at Rita’s.  This is a fundraiser for Relay for Life.  Please bring something to read or a song to sing or whatever you have.  A percentage of the proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society, and we will be taking donations at the door.  This will be from 6:00-9:00pm at the Rita’s in Branford, located at 269 East Main Street.  If you have trouble finding this, you can call George at 203-843-1586, Jaime at 203-444-6352, or Rita’s itself at 203-488-3263.  Feel free to contact any of the eboard members if you need a ride.

1:13pm

·         We are having a charity event called A Night for the Navajos on November 16^th at 7:30pm in EN B121.  We will watch a documentary about the Navajos and will be taking donations in exchange for baked goods at the event.  There will be a talk back with the creators of the film after the screening.

1:17pm

·         As our last event of the semester, we will be having a Study Night on December 8^th. We will provide dinner at this event.  Please bring anything you have to do like projects or papers or just plain studying (I’m looking at you science friends) and we can do some of our work together before finals week.

Café Bookmarks Part Two!

Bookmarks English Club is hosting our second Open Mic/Coffee House Wednesday November 2nd in EN D253 (English Common Room)! Stop by and bring your friends! You don’t have to stay for the whole night if you can’t.
Come read your favorite poem/passage/quotation, sing a song or play some of your own music/instruments!

October 19, 2011

1:11pm

·         The next major event coming up is the Halloween Party, which will be this coming Tuesday, October 25^th from 7-10pm. It will be in EN B121. There will be fun games such as a costume contest, a flash fiction contest, and a cupcake decorating contest.  Also featuring italian ice from Rita’s!  All are welcome with or without costume!

1:15pm

·         Erica looked into t-shirts for the club and they will be about $13.60.  Club and Eboard members should have designs and slogans ready next week for voting!

·         The next Café Bookmarks will be November 2^nd at 7pm.  This will be an open mic with potluck food and free coffee and tea.

·         The Homecoming football game will be at 1pm on October 29^th.  This is not an official club event but some Eboard members will be attending.  Contact Jaime or George if you would like to go with them.

1:19pm

·         Reader’s at Rita’s will be Saturday November 12^th   from 6-9pm.  This will include karaoke and open mic.  This is an event to raise money for Relay for Life at the end of the year.  Tell everyone you know and get them there to buy some custard or italian ice!  This will be at the Rita’s in Branford.  The address is 269 East Main Street.

1:21pm

·         The next play at Long Wharf is Ain’t Misbehaving on November 11^th at 8pm.  If you haven’t already signed up, please let us know by next week’s meeting if you would like to attend.  Remember this is completely free!

·         The play following that one is Krapp’s Last Tape which we’ll see on December 9^th.  We realize this is pretty far in advance but we would like to get on this fairly early because it seems like it might be a popular production.  Tickets for this are 70 dollars and we’ll get to see it for free so it’s a great opportunity!

·         Lastly, Ken mentioned that we should look into using a docking station for the printer in the English library.  The Eboard is going to talk to Cindy Stretch about this.
